Environmental Sustainability

Insulating our building

In 2022 we installed insulation in our roof, covering the main hall and making a major difference to the amount of heat lost in the building. We are adding secondary glazing to windows that are not properly sealed to retain as much heat as possible, as well as draught excluders on our doors.

Solar Power Project

We have been awarded grants from the LCEF and ICF towards the installation of solar panels on our roof. Since summer’23 we will be able to run off renewable energy from the solar panels, selling excess back to the national grid, and supplementing our winter energy consumption. You can read more about this impact, and the involvement from the community 👉 here.

Smart Heaters

We use wifi enabled heaters that monitor the temperature of the room and adjust accordingly to reduce overheating our building and wasting energy. They are integrated to our smart home system with an automatic turn off at the end of the day and can be controlled remotely, to make sure nothing is accidentally left on when the building is empty.

LED light bulbs

All our light bulbs are LED, emitting the same amount of light with a lot less energy consumed.

Recycling and waste

We seperate our day-to-day waste in the building to recycling and landfill, in line with the services our local council provide. Our general waste bin bags are made from 100% recycled plastic and our recycling bin bags are made from cornstarch (plastic free) and are fully compostable.

Net Zero commitment

smeclimatehub.org

As part of the SME climate Hub, we have joined other Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from all around the world to make the SME Climate Commitment to become Net Zero.
